Cate FreyerWe are delighted to announce that Catharine (Cate) Freyer, MBA, will join the Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine as our new division manager, effective September 14, 2026.

Cate brings more than 22 years of experience at UCSF and a deep understanding of academic medicine and the unique ZSFG environment. She currently serves as division manager for UCSF Neurology at ZSFG, where she leads the division's administrative, financial, operational, and strategic functions and partners extensively with faculty, the Dean's Office, ZSFG, and the Department of Public Health. Her leadership has contributed to significant improvements in faculty retention and engagement, clinical and research funding, staffing models, and division operations.

Prior to becoming Division Manager, Cate spent more than a decade leading complex, multi-institutional research programs in Neurology. Her experience includes large NIH-funded research networks involving hundreds of investigators and collaborators across dozens of institutions, giving her a strong foundation in the research mission that is so central to HIVIDGM.

Cate brings a thoughtful, collaborative, and innovative approach to leadership. She has extensive experience developing teams, navigating organizational change, improving operations, and using technology—including AI and automation—to expand administrative capacity. Most importantly, she shares our deep commitment to mission-driven work and serving the patients and communities of ZSFG.

We are very excited about the experience, perspective, and leadership Cate will bring to HIVIDGM and look forward to welcoming her on September 14.
