Main Story: The ZSFG primary care track of the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency Program (also known as SFPC) is a jewel for ZSFG and the Department of Medicine. For over 35 years, it has been an exemplary in training some of the nation’s most promising young doctors to provide outstanding primary care to underserved populations in a comprehensive, coordinated and continuous way. Main Story: Our PhDs are an integral part of the vibrant academic community in the ZSFG Department of Medicine. Steeped with training in fields such as behavioral science, biochemistry, biophysics, environmental health, epidemiology, genetics, health services, infectious diseases, immunology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, statistics and toxicology, they push the boundaries beyond what we currently know about science. With astounding creativity they are making impactful contributions to human knowledge and health. In this edition, we highlight three of the many impressive PhDs in our department.

Main Story: Dr. Payam Nahid has collaborated with partners in Vietnam to establish a clinical trials unit in Hanoi as part of the TB Trials Consortium, an international network funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since 2013, Dr. Reena Gupta has partnered with SEWA Rural, a nonprofit in the western Indian state of Gujarat, to improve the health of SCD patients. Dr. Grant Dorsey has worked to improve malaria treatments in collaboration with Philip Rosenthal, MD, Professor of Medicine and Moses Kamya, MMed, MPH, PhD, now Chair of the Department Medicine at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
